7 Former Cruiserweights Who Should Return To WWE Raw
3. Jimmy Wang Yang
Earlier this year, it was reported that WWE were trying to sign Jimmy Wang Yang and Curt Hawkins to help pad out the rosters after the draft split. As we now know, Hawkins is due to debut on Smackdown soon. Could Jimmy Wang Yang be coming in as a member of the Raw crew? Yang himself tweeted about him having a meeting with Vince McMahon at a WWE show.
It's been a few months since that news and there has been no confirmation that Yang has signed, but that may change soon with the Cruiserweight Division about to start proper. Adding fuel to the fire, Yang recently wrestled his first match in about three years and looked sharp during it, by all accounts.
Although he's only 35, Yang has seemingly been around forever, debuting as a member of the Yung Dragons stable in WCW in 2000. His contract was acquired by WWE in March 2001 but he was released in early 2002. Excellent performances for All Japan Pro Wrestling, TNA and various indies convinced WWE to give him another go and he came back into the fold in October 2003, as Akio.
The highlight of his WWE run was a series of awesome matches with Paul London on Velocity but he was released in 05. More good showings for the likes of Ring of Honor ensured that WWE brought him back a year later although, this time, it was under a vastly different gimmick. Newly-Christened 'Jimmy Wang Yang', he played a cowboy hat-wearing, Fu Manchu-sporting redneck.
The character was a minor hit and his short-lived tag team with Shannon Moore had potential. Yang was once again released and briefly turned to Japan and the indies before hanging up his wife-beater and exploring other business ventures.
Now though, with the cruiserweight division due to come back, we could see him return to WWE for a third time and another run.
