7 Former Cruiserweights Who Should Return To WWE Raw
7. Rey Mysterio
Rey Mysterio was the main man in both WCW and WWE's cruiserweight divisions in the 90s and early 2000s. A multi-time former champion, there is perhaps nobody as synonymous with the style as the masked man. Rey naturally progressed from the cruiserweight to heavyweight ranks in WWE as his frame got bigger and his popularity grew, but he's proven in recent times that he can still fly with the best of the 200lb-and-under crew.
His recent matches for Lucha Underground, particularly his incredible display against Ricochet, should not be possible for a man who has had the amount of serious injuries that Mysterio has. Rolling back the years, Rey looks more motivated than he has in an age and is justifiably receiving plaudits from all corners.
WWE will be watching and, knowing how much Rey means to the WWE Universe at large, would more than likely be keen to bring him back into the fold. The major bugbear may be the full-time schedule, which the 41-year-old more than likely wouldn't want to sign up for. It was because of this demanding schedule that Rey's body broke down at the rate it did and it's only because he's now a part-time performer with a schedule that he himself dictates that he's able to pull out all of the stops in LU and other promotions.
The 619 innovator would be a fantastic addition to the Raw roster, particularly if he was to go against the cruiserweights. Mysterio against Brian Kendrick, Tozawa, Gran Metalik and Jack Gallagher would all be must-see matches. No longer on bad terms with the company, perhaps WWE will extend the olive branch to one of their best ever merch-movers.
He's in the best shape of his life, he's by no means an old man and he still has huge appeal and a sizeable fanbase. WWE would be a fool to at least not try. His contract with LU might prevent it for the time being but, whenever he is free to work elsewhere, it would be great if that elsewhere could be on Raw.
