10 Wrestling Storylines Where Evil Won

2. Edge Vs. Matt Hardy

It's not exactly a tale of good versus evil, this - more a tale of adulterer versus toxic emo who mobilised his fans against his ex, who the fans, being wrestling fans, treated as the real heel in the carny adaptation of a distressing love triangle.

It's more complex than labelling Hardy as the good guy in all of this, since he had no qualms about publicising the matter and doing less than nothing to stem the backlash that all but scorched Lita's psyche. He wasn't to know that Lita would be turned into a one-dimensional "slut" character. Nor was he to know that the character would become so over and so established for this transgression that Vince would later threaten to fire her if she refused to participate in the infamous Live Sex Celebration angle.

Christ, the whole deal was such a mess, looking back at things, and the catharsis was never realised in the fiction. Hardy was beaten down horribly at SummerSlam, and while he gained a measure of revenge at Unforgiven, the memory of the elongated squash - and Hardy's ultimate loss - prevails.

The lesser of evils lost because WWE saw more money in the man, Edge, who was lionized as an entertaining heel shagger.
